Colossians 2:6-7

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Devotional:

In this scripture, Paul focuses on characteristics of what it means to live a life in Christ. We become rooted in Jesus as we put our faith in Him and what He did for us on the cross. We continue to be built up in Him as our faith and love for Him increases. We are strengthened throughout our faith journey by trusting in Him and remembering His goodness and all He has done and has promised to do. We overflow with thankfulness as we choose to give God gratitude and glory, no matter what the circumstance. Overflow with thankfulness – what a visual phrase! When we are “filled” on the inside with Christ (rooted, built up, strengthened), thankfulness becomes a natural response. No matter what our lives look like at the moment, we can still be thankful because we have life in Christ! When we are living in Christ, we notice more and more of God’s working in our lives; and we begin to overflow with thankfulness to Him. What does living a life of overflowing thankfulness mean to you?

Try praying this simple prayer: “God, I am so thankful for You. You give me the ability to live my life in Christ Jesus. I want my faith to overflow so that others can see You through me. Help me to be rooted, built up, strengthened, and overflowing with thankfulness. God, guide me today to choose gratitude, and give You all the glory. Let my heart be aligned with Yours, and continually give thanks to You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
