John 17:6-11

“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

Devotional:

Do you ever feel like God is giving you scriptural encouragement for another person? Sometimes it feels like you’re supposed to give that verse or reference to them. Other times it might be something to pray over them. And sometimes it’s a prayer for them that happens maybe even in the middle of the night. Those are words from God and we shouldn’t allow those words to go unused.

In this passage here, we are given the example of praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ (praying for our Christian family, if you will). These prayers are encouragement to continue pushing forward in the name of Jesus. These prayers are protective. These prayers unify us together with each other and the mission of Jesus! These prayers, for our Christian family, are key to our faith. Pray for your Christian family members! Make the promise today that you will pray for other Christians. Lift them up, using the words that God has placed on your heart and in your mind. Speak words of encouragement, protection, and love into the lives of your family.
