1 John 5:13-15

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

Devotional:

Are you sure of the fact that your salvation rests in Christ alone, and not in your own performance? John reminds us in this passage that we can have 100% confidence that Christ has saved us, and given us an eternity in heaven with Him. In this, God desires for us to seek His will for our lives through His word and relationship with Him. When we do this, we become acquainted with His will and can pray to that end.  God has gifted us the freedom to come to Him boldly in prayer and ask Him for things. He is always listening to us. We never have to beg God to hear us, or vie for His attention. John is telling all of God’s children that when we pray for what God desires, He will hear our prayers and answer them…how amazing! God wants us to work alongside Him, and long for the things He longs for; when that happens, our will comes into alignment with God’s will. When my family walks through uncertain times, I often find myself praying this prayer, “God, help me to want what you want more than what I want. Help me find the peace in that. Your will, not mine.” When we fix our eyes on the truth of God’s Word rather than the facts of our circumstances, we can pray for BIG things in His name.  Pray with the expectation that God hears you and will answer your prayers!
