James 5:13-16

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefor confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Devotional:

Often in life, we get so busy that we forget the power and necessity of prayer. This passage challenges us to draw near to God through prayer in every circumstance. If we are happy, we need to talk with God. If we are in trouble, we definitely need to talk to God. Interesting enough, the longest exhortation in this passage is about healing. God wants us to pray for healing no matter what – regardless of what we think the outcome may be. This passage not only reminds us to pray, but that our prayers as His righteous people are ‘powerful and effective.’ We could begin to see healing and miracles happen right before our eyes. All it takes is our next ‘yes’ to Jesus through prayer today!
