Luke 13:22-24 – He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem. And someone said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

This can be a tough Bible verse to read, as we tend to accidentally read into it that God doesn’t want many to be saved. Honestly though, nothing could be further from the truth. God tells us explicitly in 2 Peter 3:9 that He wants everyone to come to repentance and be saved. It is important to look at the context of this verse. Jesus is heading to Jerusalem where he will die for our sins, be raised from the dead, and ultimately provide forgiveness, the means for each of us to be saved. Jesus is the narrow gate. As much as we might like to believe that there are other ways to relationship with God, Jesus is about to provide the only way. We cannot forget that our sin has separated us from God. We must remember that choosing to repent and trust in Jesus Christ alone for our eternal life, is the only way back into relationship with God.

Prayer Topic:

God, I pray that you would help me to realize my need for Jesus. Thank you for the forgiveness you offer me, and the relationship that you desire to have with me. Help me never to take that for granted. Thank you for your love for me! Help me to love others the way you love me – to pray for them, to live out love in my actions, and to share your desire for them to receive forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
