1 Peter 3:7

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

Devotional:

It shouldn’t surprise us that what’s in our heart affects our prayers and God’s response to them. Peter notes this, specifically referring to a husband’s attitude and relationship with his wife (which is very important, just as a wife’s is to her husband). However, there is more to this truth.

As mentioned yesterday, Psalm 66:18 tells us “If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.”

God takes our prayers seriously, but He takes the state of our relationship with Him and others even more seriously.

Jesus notes this as well (see Matthew 5:23-24 and 6:14-15, from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount).

So today, if you are holding on to any bad attitudes toward others that will hinder your prayers, bring that to God and align your heart with His toward them. It will be a spiritual win-win!

Today’s challenge: pray for your heart to be aligned with God’s toward others.
